Angie and Hugh spent the first half of October in Nepal, where they ascended to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) at 4,130metres (13,550ft). Very hot with good views in the mornings, the days generally clouded over from mid-day onwards leading to thick cloud at higher altitudes. The sunrise over Annapurna I at ABC was great. The best views were of Machhapuchre, the so called ‘fish tail’ peak, which was first viewed from afar and gradually drew nearer and nearer to, before eventually passing by its foot at the entrance to the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Below left shows their first view of Machhapuchre from their first nights stay at Dhampus, and below right an early view of Annapurna South.

The sunrise from ABC was amazing. Below left shows Angie and Hugh just before the sun caught the top of south face of Annapurna I, shown below right.

Below left shows Angie outside the lodge at ABC after sunrise, with the view looking back to Annapurna South.
Below right shows their last view of Machhapuchre on their way down to the road head at Birethanti. .

This months Mid-week walk was based around Woodland Fell. Below left shows the group gathering, and below right above Beacon Tarn.

Mick and Clare did some walking in the hills of Andalucia, and below is Clare above El Choro.

Congratulations to member Mel Middleton on topping out on Mera Peak, 6,476m, and Island Peak, 6,189m, both in Nepal.
